Mothilal and Pavan thought of doing the systems together and include me when we were asked to form groups and work on wicked problems. The main reason for us coming together is our combined interest and love for technology and science. Our area of expertise and style of working may be different but we function well as a team.
We did miss the element of social interaction. Pavan came up with the idea of using Bitmoji and create our virtual avtar to be used while ideating to generate humanizing experience.
Mothilal (Moti) : Graduated from Anna University as a mechanical engineer. He is experienced in systems and service design with an inclination to speculative design process
Vishruth(Me) : Graduated from PDPU, Gandhinagar as an Industrial Engineer. I have an experience in transportation design with an eye for green mobility and space exploration.
Pavan : Graduated from MVJ College of Engineering, Bangalore as a mechanical engineer. He is experienced in CAD and rapid prototyping with a keen interest in emerging technologies like AR/VR, IoT and Robotics.
We liked the idea of taking speculative mega projects for systems. The first thing coming to our mind was Mars colonization. Being a fan of Elon, we liked almost every project starting from solar city, hyperloop, Neuralink, the boring company, and hyperloop.
About Mars colonization, it's a dream for all the geeks out there to transform science fiction into reality. We started listing down whatever came to our mind from terraforming mars, creating bubble cities, transportation, communication array satellite, population boom, and many more.
Even the idea of Gemini world is a terminology given to the virtual earth (Earth 2.0). Commonly seen in sci-fi movies, one of its fantasized versions seen in "Ready Player One".
We started ideating on the same.
Energy Crisis is one of the super wicked problems to be worked on. With the growing concern of climate change, non-renewable and unconventional energy sources can be explored and its distribution system can be made. We asked ourselves " Can the harsh weather conditions of climate change can be taken as an advantage to generate energy?"
One unconventional system design topic we came across was health. Can we Quantify health ? What are the major factors assessing our survival state ? Is our death date predefined?
Here comes another project of Elon Musk i.e. Neuralink where he is working on the brain-machine interface. We thought about its future and how cyber wares and cyber implants can be a part of humanity. Will this lead to a new division in society?
Will there be any ethics, laws, and regulations governing the manipulation of the human body using hardware?
The last topic we ideated was the currently existing problem of lack of campus access to our degree program. We pondered on the fact of what it is like to have the experience of design learning completely online.
What is the future of NID and the future of design in the country post-pandemic? Since this was a system design course happening completely online, we thought of making systems for system design.
